TURNING DIRT INTO SOIL
The benefits of Organic Matter in the soil. Methods of increasing Organic Matter
Soil Structure, Soil Conditioners, Minerals.
There will be some practical work included in this workshop.
BRING: hat, gloves, closed in shoes.
To do a ph test and soil structure test you will need a soil sample 400grams in 500gm tall
bottle with lid Take from 4cm below the surface of soil, we want soil not litter from top.

COMPOST MAKING AND WORM FARMING
Using kitchen scraps, garden waste, dry leaves to create food for soil microbes who will
convert into plant available food. Compost additives ie biochar, zeolite, clay.
Some practical work in this workshop so bring hat, gloves, closed in shoes.

PROPAGATION
Seed raising mixes, What seeds to plant now for April plant out, taking and making
cuttings, tubers, divisions, what to plant for the hot weather, cool weather, growing
times and a little about tropical perennial vegetables.
Some practical work included so wear closed in shoes, bring gloves and face mask.

PREPARING THE GARDEN BED and PLANTING SEEDLINGS
How to prepare the bed for raising nutrient dense food in an almost pest free
environment. The organic matter started in February should be broken down.
The seedlings started in the March workshop will be ready to plant out. Ongoing
maintenance will be included in this workshop.
This will be a practical workshop. Bring hat, closed in shoes, gloves
Each Workshop Cost: $30 for Members of Permaculture Cairns, $35 for non-members.
Cuttings Potting mix, Seeds, Seed raising mix, Compost additives and Morning tea
included in cost
